Accessibility information

We aim to make our site as accessible as possible for everyone and have constructed this website in line with Government guidelines and to meet The World Wide Web Consortium's WAI ( Web Accessibility Initiative) standards.

The design of our website includes a number of accessibility features such as skip to and through navigation. This is useful to any visitor using screen reading technology.

Text only version

Whilst the site itself is fully accessible and allows for scaleable text a text only version is also available. This function uses Betsie ( BBC Education Text to Speech Internet Enhancer) - a filter program developed to create an automatic text-only version of the site. This allows a user faster access and further customisation of contrast, text size and font style.

Scaleable text

The text on our website is scaleable so that you should be able to adjust the size.

Internet Explorer up to version 6 use the "View" menu on your browser and amend the setting for "text size".

Internet Explorer version 7 use the "Page" menu on your browser and amend the settingf or "text size".

Mozilla Firefox 5.0 use the "View" menu on your browser and and amend the setting for "text size".

Design continuity

The main categories are available at the top of every page making it easy to navigate at any point in the website.

You can switch between languages, or translate each page by using www.google.translate.

Text descriptions for images

All images on the website have appropriate text descriptions (ALT tags) attached to them.

Downloadable documents in PDF format

PDF (Adobe Acrobat) file format is used for the publication of large documents on this site. To view and print PDF files, you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed: click the image in the right hand navigation to download the software.

To convert PDFs back to plain text, you must use Adobe's Web-based conversion service. For further information please see Adobe's website. Follow the link below.

Access Keys

Access keys are in place to aid navigation. On Windows you can press ALT + an access key and on a Macintosh you press Control + an access key.

Print Version

If you would rather read content off screen, you can print out pages of the site without the menu. All pages are designed to be print friendly.
